Wie alles begann…

Als ich feststellte dass das Filmangebot für gehörlose Kinder verschwindend gering ist, entstand in mir der Wunsch Märchen in deutscher Gebärdensprache (DGS) zu erzählen. Ich bastelte an einer Ästhetik und Bildsprache, die Gehörlose und Hörende, Jung und Alt, gleichermaßen ansprechen sollte. Die Kinder sollten dabei erleben, dass ihre Sprache (die DGS) nicht als Besonderheit nebenbei übersetzt wird, sondern zentrales Element des Films ist. Das Märchen wurde aus einer Mischung von Real- und Animations- bzw. Collagenfilm erzählt. Gemeinsam mit unseren gehörlosen Darstellern machten wir Filmaufnahmen in der Greenbox, die dann in der Nachbearbeitung mit Trickfilmsequenzen aus Illustrationen und Collagen kombiniert wurden. Die DGS ist in unserer Märchenwelt nicht nur eine Sprache der Darsteller, sondern auch ihre Umwelt, z.B. Bäume stellen sich selbst mittels einzelner Gebärdensymbole als animierte Objekte dar und werden so spielerisch erlernbar gemacht. Durch die enge Zusammenarbeit mit Gehörlosen war ebenfalls unser Wunsch Hörenden ein Zugang zur Erlebnis- und Vorstellungswelt der Gehörlosen zu ermöglichen und neugierig zu machen.
Die Gebärdensprache fasziniert durch ihre Komplexität und differenzierte Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten. Sie ist seit 2002 als selbstständige Sprache anerkannt, nicht international und findet visuell räumlich statt. Da sich ihre Grammatik grundlegend von der der deutschen Lautsprache unterscheidet, ist die an der Lautsprache orientierte Schriftsprache für Gehörlose kompliziert und schwer fassbar. Dies ist der Grund dafür, warum viele Gehörlose ungern lesen und gehörlosen Kindern Märchen einfacher gebärdet zugänglich gemacht werden können.
Mittlerweile haben wir noch 3 weitere Märchen in Gebärdensprache realisiert und freuen uns auf weitere Projekte: Das Schneewittchen, Das tapfere Schneiderlein, Die Schneekönigin

How it all began…
When I noticed that the number of films available for deaf children was negligible, I had the desire to tell fairytales in German Sign Language. I was working on an aesthetic and visual language that would appeal to deaf and hearing people, young and old alike. The children should experience that their language is not translated as a special feature, but is a central element of the film. The fairytale was told from a mixture of real and animated/collage film. Together with our deaf actors we made film shots in the greenbox, which were then combined with animated film sequences from illustrations and collages in the post production. In our fairytale world, the Sign Language is not only a language of the humans, but also their environment, e.g. trees present themselves as animated objects by means of individual gesture symbols and are thus made playfully learnable. Through the close cooperation with deaf people, we also wanted to give hearing people access to the world of experience and imagination of the deaf and make them curious.
Sign language fascinates through its complexity and differentiated possibilities of expression. It has been recognised as an independent language since 2002, is not international and takes place visually spatially. Since its grammar differs fundamentally from that of the English spoken language, the written language oriented to the spoken language is complicated and difficult for deaf people to grasp. This is the reason why many deaf people are reluctant to read and deaf children can more easily access fairy tales in Sign language.
